About the Event Organizer
James (Jim) O'Neil is both a successful entrepreneur and experienced little league coach from Essex, Massachusetts. In 2002, Jim and two of his four sons participated as volunteers in SWC's "Communities Play" sports equipment distribution program in Mexico. He helped collect new and used sports equipment in the area of his hometown and transported it to Mexico, where he met up with other SWC volunteers from all over the country. There, he and his sons spent 10 days with the SWC volunteer team, working in schools and with local "sports and culture" clubs, distributing the sports equipment to children in need and conducting skills training clinics.
Message from Jim O'Neil:
"I was inspired to become involved with SWC after seeing first hand the remarkable results that their 'Communities Play' programs can produce. After participating in SWCs volunteer program to Mexico in 2002 with two of my sons, I was encouraged by the positive results achieved through SWCs efforts to provide the resources necessary to create a baseball field out of a previously vacant junkyard, and initiate a little league baseball program that currently has more than 500 youth participants. I was especially moved by the childrens enthusiasm, the involvement of the childrens families and parents, and the show of support from the local community businesses and leaders . . . all of which are a direct result of SWC's programs. I also noticed that the youth that have received the benefits of SWCs program in years past became role models and mentors for the younger athletes in these impoverished areas. ALL of this was proof that the efforts put forth by SWC volunteers and sponsors over the years generated overwhelmingly positive results."
